Lightning Strike Caused Reston Shopping Center Fire
Fire investigators from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department determined that lightning caused the June 11 blaze in Reston.

RESTON, VA — Fire investigators from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department determined that a lightning strike caused the June 11 fire at a Reston shopping center, according to a post on the department's blog.
FCFRD units responded to a call from a delivery person for a building fire around 2:56 a.m., at the North Point Village Shopping Center.
Arriving units found fire showing from the roof and firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze in the vacant building.

No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported and damages are estimated to be approximately $75,000. No one was displaced and assistance from the Red Cross was not required.
