Major Reston Crash Leaves 1 Dead: Police

Police believe speed was a factor in the crash early Saturday morning.

RESTON, VA -- A Maryland man has died after a crash in Reston early Saturday morning, and police believe speed was a factor.

Johnny Nony Souvannavong, 23, of Upper Marlboro died after his car hit a traffic signal pole in the area of Baron Cameron Avenue and Hunter Mill Road at around 1:15 a.m., according to a report from the Fairfax County Police Department. He was the only person in the car.

"Detectives from our Crash Reconstruction Unit are investigating the crash and believe speed was a factor," the report states. "The Subaru was traveling eastbound on Baron Cameron Avenue near Hunter Mill Road when a tire went off the roadway. The driver over corrected and lost control of the vehicle, causing the vehicle to cross over eastbound lanes, the center median and westbound lanes before striking the traffic signal pole."
