Major Toll Road Closures Overnight in Reston, Herndon - Here Are the Details

A significant construction project on Metro's expanding Silver Line will result in lane closures.

RESTON, VA — Big lane closures and detours are going to be giving Reston and Herndon commuters headaches who choose to travel on parts of the toll road Friday evening and into the next morning, thanks to ongoing construction on future Silver Line Metro stations. And it will again cause problems next week.

The construction activities will result in lane closures on the Dulles International Airport Access Highway and Dulles Greenway.

Specifically, mile marker 4.7 to 5.6 of the DIAAH will have a left lane closure between 6 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Saturday. Authorities are building an entrance acceleration/deceleration lane, according to a statement from the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project.

The right shoulder from mile marker 5.0 to 5.4 on that stretch will also be closed, and for the same reason.

Further west toward Herndon, the left lane will be closed from mile marker 2.5 to 2.0 near the Centreville Road bridge during those hours, also for building an entrance acceleration/deceleration lane.

And finally, Dulles Greenway East will shut down two lanes from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. from mile marker 10.0 to 12.0 for "aerial guideway construction."

"Drivers are asked to use caution, remain attentive to all signage, barricades and speed limits, and obey all police and flagger instructions," a March 17 statement reads.

Lane closures will also take place on Wednesday, March 22 on the DIAAH for repairs to crossover gates. The repairs will happen from mile marker 8.3 to 9.0, east of Hunter Mill Road, from 11:45 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., and will result in the closure of the right shoulder. The repairs will also result in a right shoulder closure from mile marker 7.5 to 6.5 from 9 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. on that date.
