Margaret Perry Appointed To Reston Association Board Of Directors
Reston Association's Board of Directors appointed Margaret Perry Thursday night to be its Hunters Woods/Dogwood representative.

RESTON, VA — Reston Association Board of Directors appointed Margaret Perry to fill the vacant Hunters Woods/Dogwood seat on the board at its monthly meeting on Thursday.
Perry was one of four candidates to put their names forward to fill the seat vacated by former Hunters Woods/Dogwood Director Caren Anton, who resigned from the board in May. The three other candidates were David Crocker, Radhika Gupta Murari, and Carol Nahorniak.
Perry, who resides on Whitetail Court, has lived in the Hunters Woods community since September 2010, according to her statement of candidacy. A full-time government contractor, she also works part-time for two local non-profit groups.

"Besides being a board member, I have been part of the PTA, a committee chair and often a volunteer," Perry said, describing her qualifications. "In each position I’ve always made my decisions based on how it would affect the entire group. I make sure that all community members are considered, and advocate for those who need a louder voice."
In her candidate's statement, Perry listed the following goals as a Reston Association director:

- More involvement of and active engagement with the RA members.
- RA members should know when and how to access RA resources.
- Improving and maintaining the RA resources already available, this includes recreational spaces
- Improve the covenants process and make sure that decisions are made smartly and uniformly.
- Confirm that the CEO applicants understand the diversity that we have in Reston and why that makes us a better community.
- Assist with forming/approving a budget that meets the needs of Reston, while recognizing that individuals are feeling financial constraints
- Address real time community needs and hear wish list items for the future
Once the votes were tabulated and Perry was officially appointed, she joined the board as a member for the remainder of Thursday night's meeting.
Anton's resignation came almost two months after she finished her one-year term as board president. Much of the focus of the last six months of Anton's tenure as board president was the search to find a full-time chief executive officer.
Thursday's appointment is the second the 2022 board has made since it was sworn in on April 13. At that same meeting, Tim Dowling submitted a letter of resignation. At its May meeting, the board appointed John Farrell to fill Dowling's at-large seat.
With Dowling and Anton's resignations and the addition of three new members in April, the nine-member RA Board has added five new members this year.
As board-appointed rather than elected directors, Perry and Farrell will only serve until April 2023, when the new board is sworn in. Of course, they have the option to run in the March 2023 election.
