Massive Turnout At Reston Zoning Meeting Forces Postponement (Video)

A huge crowd packed into the Lake Anne Elementary School cafeteria Monday night, prompting Supervisor Hudgins to call the meeting off.

RESTON, VA — A public meeting on a proposal to boost the population density limits in Reston Monday night had to be postponed. Why? There were too many people.

Throngs of people packed the Lake Anne Elementary School cafeteria, prompting Fairfax County Supervisor Cathy Hudgins to announce that the meeting would be postponed until a bigger space could be booked, her office confirmed to Patch.

Kathleen Driscoll, Hudgins' chief of staff, said they are actively looking and no date has been set yet for a follow-up meeting.

Restonians are up in arms about the zoning amendment proposal, which would increase the population density limit in the Reston Planned Residential Community (PRC) district from 13 people per square acre to 16. The county argues the move is necessary to meet the goals of the Reston master plan, but opponents argue that the community's infrastructure is ill-equipped to handle more growth, and that the population could triple by 2050.
