More Toll Road Closures Monday Near Reston, Herndon

The construction of Metro stations will continue to cause road closures in the area for the foreseeable future.

RESTON, VA — Sorry, Reston and Herndon commuters, work on the future Silver Line Metro stations will continue to mess with your commutes tonight -- and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

The Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project announced that nighttime construction activities would shut down the two left lanes of the Dulles Toll Road in the westbound direction beginning at 10 p.m. Monday night and lasting until 5 a.m. Tuesday morning. The road closures will be between mile markers 3.5 and 1.9, or from the Monroe/Van Buren Street overpass to about a mile before the Route 28 overpass.

Construction crews will be installing overhead signs at that location.

The traffic problems will be more pronounced on the Dulles International Airport Access Highway, which will be shutdown entirely in the eastbound direction between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. tonight. That will lead to spillover onto surrounding Reston and Herndon roads.

Locals should expect that these road closures will continue for a while. They're part of the construction of new Metro stations on the Silver Line at Reston Town Center, Herndon and points west.
