Snow Storm: Warning Issued in Latest Forecast

The region's most significant snowfall so far this season appears ready to arrive Monday.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Northern Virginia region and Washington, D.C. area from 4 p.m. Monday until noon on Tuesday.

The National Weather Service forecasts that the area will see between 4 and 8 inches of snow.

The snow will be a powdery snow that will stick, said Brian Lasorsa, a meteorologist with the NWS in Sterling. The snow will arrive from the south, from the Tennessee Valley, moving northeast, he noted.

“Beginning late Monday afternoon, roads will become snow covered and slippery with visibilities being reduced to one-half mile or less at times,” according to an NWS statement.

Temperatures will continue to be in the teens, according to the forecast, but wind chill values will be 5 to 10 degrees below zero into Monday morning. A Wind Chill Advisory for Sunday has been extended by the NWS until Monday at 10 a.m.
