ParkRTC App Downloads Surge as Paid Parking Kicks in at Reston Town Center

A week into paid parking at RTC, downloads of the app have jumped significantly.

RESTON, VA — Downloads of the ParkRTC app have jumped around 50 percent since paid parking started at Reston Town Center at Jan. 3, according to RTC manager Boston Properties.

Rob Weinhold of the Fallston Group, which represents BP, said that downloads of the ParkRTC app are now up to 42,000, a huge increase from Jan. 3 when downloads were at about 28,000.

Weinhold said the uptick was expected as locals activate the paid parking model when visiting RTC.

"From an operating and usage standpoint, the initial roll-out has been successful," he added. "Boston Properties is committed to its ongoing outreach efforts with a continued view toward adoption."

The ParkRTC app has remained fiercely unpopular with many locals, who object to it both because of paid parking and over privacy concerns, but there is so far no indication of any large-scale boycott of the app.
