Police Arrest Man at Reston Hotel After He Holds Guest Hostage

Police arrested Carlton Vanlowe on various charges.

UPDATE: Charges against Carlton Vanlowe have been dismissed.


Fairfax County Police responded to a Reston hotel on Saturday after a man held a guest hostage in her room.

The hotel, located in the 12100 block of Sunset Hills Road in Reston, had barred the man previously from the premises. When he showed up on Saturday, he was denied a room due to the trespass ban, police said.

The man then walked through the hotel and triggered several fire alarms inside the hotel and knocked on various doors.

The subject entered a hotel guest’s room without consent where he held a woman against her will, police said.

Police arrested Carlton Vanlowe, 36, of no fixed address and charged him with abduction with intent to defile, trespassing, unlawful entry and falsely summoning emergency services.
