Update: Reston Woman's Death Ruled Homicide

Fairfax County Police Department detectives responded to the scene of a death at a Reston home Monday night.

Update Tuesday, June 23, 4:30 p.m.: This story was updated with new information from the Fairfax County Police Department.

RESTON, VA — Detectives from the Fairfax County Police Department responded Monday night to a Reston home for a death investigation, according to a police release. FCPD identified the victim as 29-year-old Maryam Ali Mohammed Al Jaberi.

Officers from the Reston District Station responded around 6:30 p.m., to the 11000 block of Great Owl Circle, after Al Jaberi's landlord reported finding her deceased in the basement of the home she rented from him. Responding officers noticed suspected trauma to Al Jaberi's upper body. Following an examination Tuesday morning, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the death as a homicide.

This remains an active investigation. Detectives are interviewing witnesses and examining evidence to determine the circumstances leading to Al Jaberi's death.

Major Crimes Bureau’s Victim Services Division victim specialists have been assigned to see that the victim's family is receiving appropriate resources and assistance.

Al Jaberi's death is the fifth homicide this year in Fairfax County.
