Power Outage Strikes Reston Town Center
Authorities were able to restore power about 40 minutes after an equipment failure caused problems in Reston and Herndon.
RESTON, VA — An equipment failure at the Herndon-Reston power substation caused a power outage at Reston Town Center and the surrounding area, forcing police to direct traffic and leaving hundreds without power in the middle of the day.
Personnel with Dominion Virginia Power immediately arrived on the scene to find that there had been an equipment failure at around 11:34 a.m., and were able to restore power about 40 minutes later, Dominion Virginia Power spokesman Chuck Penn said.
The outage impacted 584 customers in the Reston and Herndon area, he said.

Fairfax County Police tweeted shortly before noon that a power outage was affecting traffic signals "in and around Town Center," and officers were on the scene directing traffic.
