3 Candidates Running For The RA Board Have Already Reached 10% Quorum To Win Their Races
All three candidates in the Reston Association's Board of Directors election have reached the 10 percent quorum necessary to win.

RESTON, VA — Even though the three races have already been decided for all intents and purposes, Reston Association members are still being urged to vote in the RA board elections before polls close at 5 p.m. on Friday.
The three candidates on the ballot — Glenn Small, Irwin Flashman, and Laurel Dodd — have been running uncontested for the soon-to-be-vacant at-large, Lake Anne/Tall Oaks, and North Point seats, respectively. The one milestone each candidate had to reach so that they were officially elected was to receive at least 10 percent of the votes cast in their respective races. As of March 24, they each have achieved that milestone.
Each week in March during the election, Intelliscan Inc., the company tabulating the RA Board election results, has released Quorum Reports with vote totals from the previous week. Here are the vote totals for each of the candidates as of March 24:

"We're a little over the 10 percent quorum as of the last report, and the one this week will probably push us up higher," said Mike Leone, RA's director of communications. "Even if we move up to 11 or 12 percent on the quorum count, we have 21,000 members. That's still a fairly small percentage."
Intelliscan reported it had received 1,540 online and 772 paper ballots as of March 24, which adds up to 2,312 votes cast by RA members.

"All three of these races are uncontested, but we want to encourage members to exercise that right to vote and push that quorum out higher so there's more voter participation," Leone said.
RA holds a board election every year and Leone hopes that if more people voted, they might be inspired to run in the next election.
RA members are able to cast their ballots by mail or online until 5 p.m. on Friday. The final votes will be tallied and the winners will be officially announced during RA's annual members meeting on Tuesday, April 12, from 7-10 p.m. This year's meeting will be conducted virtually using Zoom.
Current board members John Mooney (NorthPoint), Aaron Webb (Tall Oaks), and Tom Mulkerin (At-Large) will step down once the newly elected board members are officially announced.
