Relay For Life of NoVa sponsored by Peraton Fights Cancer
American Cancer Society event continues to fundraise to help fuel cancer research for new cures and provide free services and support
The Relay For Life movement is dedicated to helping communities attack cancer, taking place in more than 5,000 locations in over 20 countries annually. Through funds donated, time given, or awareness raised, communities like Northern Virginia team up during spring and summer to hold inspiring events. Relay of NoVa sponsored by national security firm Peraton took place Saturday, May 21 at South Lakes High School in Reston.
Mike Londregan, 2-time cancer survivor and chief security officer at Peraton, had the honor of being Relay’s survivor speaker. “In my role, you must be proactive to prevent small problems becoming bigger ones from crippling the company. That same mindset is critical in confronting cancer,” he told the crowd.
Sadly, Mike lost his father to #melanoma that spread to his lung, liver, and brain, and took his life just three months after diagnosis. Mike believes that being proactive and having routine checkups might have saved his dad’s life. Mike credits early detection, routine scans, and PSA tests, for catching his own melanoma and #prostatecancer in time.

“This day is about supporting a good cause,” said Mike. “Each of us is here helping to fuel research that could lead to a cure. We’re raising funds for services and treatments that will help prevent a forever goodbye…It’s a powerful thing to see what people can do when they come together for a single goal.”
Peraton had 8 teams at RFL of NoVa, playing a strong role in helping Relay raise $85,000. Many other community teams and volunteers put their all into the event, as well. You can see all the teams and still donate at www.relayforlife.org/northernvirginia. Thank you to all Relay of NoVa supporters. At Relay, cancer is faced together!
