Reston Association Board Member Resigns 18 Months Into Term
Matthew Mullenix stepped down 18 months after he was elected. Reston Association members have until Nov. 6 to nominate a replacement.
RESTON, VA — Reston Association Board Treasurer Matthew Mullenix has resigned, leaving an at-large seat vacant just 18 months after he was elected.
Mullenix's resignation took effect Thursday, according to the Reston Association Board of Directors. The association did not provide a reason for his departure.
Mullenix joined the board in April 2025 after running unopposed for a three-year term. He and Michael Lanza, who was elected to represent the North Point District, received enough votes to meet the association's required 10 percent voter quorum, Patch previously reported.

Mullenix received 4,866 votes, representing 12.03 percent of eligible votes in the at-large race. He succeeded Trevor Grywatch, who did not seek re-election.
"On behalf of the Board, I want to thank Matt for his leadership and for his service to the Association," Board President Travis Johnson said in a statement. "We wish him the very best and thank him for his many contributions to our community."

The association is accepting nominations from members or their designees to fill the vacancy until noon Friday, Nov. 6.
Applications are available online or in person at Reston Association headquarters, located at 12001 Sunrise Valley Drive.
The board will appoint a replacement to serve until the next election in 2027, when voters will choose someone to complete Mullenix's term, which expires in April 2028.
The selected replacement is expected to take a seat on the board at its Nov. 12 meeting.
