Reston Club Helps Raise $25k for Cancer Patients

Onelife Fitness Hosts Fundraiser for Armor Up For Life

Armor Up for Life, an initiative developed to empower those battling cancer, raised over $25k through community involvement in a fundraising campaign with US Fitness facilities that included Reston's Onelife Fitness.

Developed by Loriana Hernandez-Aldama, a cancer survivor and award-winning journalist, Armor Up for Life aims to provide cancer patients with gear, equipment, and support to “get fit and stay fit while in the fight.” Hernandez was advised during her battle that a heightened level of physical activity would give her the best chance of survival. She created the initiative to help others battling cancer feel physical, mental, and emotional empowerment.

In partnering with US Fitness - which is the parent company of Crunch, Onelife, and Sport&Health – Hernandez’ Armor Up received over $25,000 of donations from the organization’s gyms, of which there are over 30 in the area.

Donations achieved charitable contributions of workout gear, fitness equipment, and funding to Armor Up for Life (which also contributes to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s research efforts). Cash, clothing, yoga mats, treadmills, shoes, and more will be contributed to local cancer patients through the fundraiser. Gym memberships, class passes, and spa gifts were contributed by the gyms for the event’s raffles.
