Reston Community Center Opens Candidate Filing For 2026 Board Seats

RESTON, VA — Reston residents interested in helping guide the future of the Reston Community Center have an opportunity to seek a seat on the organization's Board of Governors.

The Reston Community Center announced it is accepting Statements of Candidacy beginning Friday, July 31, for the 2026 Preference Poll, the annual community vote used to recommend candidates for appointment to the nine-member Board of Governors.

The board oversees RCC's overall policies, establishes priorities for programs and budgets, and represents the community center at events and activities. Up to three seats are filled each year through the preference poll process.

Who Can Run, Key Deadlines

Residents of Fairfax County Small District 5 — which includes most Reston ZIP codes — who are at least 18 years old are eligible to run for appointment to the board.

Statements of Candidacy will be available beginning at 9 a.m. Friday, July 31, at RCC Hunters Woods, RCC Lake Anne and online through the Reston Community Center website. Candidate filing closes at 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 14.

Three board positions, each carrying three-year terms, will be filled through this year's process.

A Candidates Forum is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, at RCC Hunters Woods. Voting will take place both online and in person from Sept. 4 through 5 p.m. Sept. 25. Mail-in ballots must be received by RCC's counting agent no later than 5 p.m. Sept. 24.

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors established the Board of Governors to represent taxpayers in Small District 5 by helping set policy and oversee RCC finances. After the annual preference poll, the Board of Supervisors makes the official appointments based on the community's expressed preferences.
