Reston Farmers Market To Open Same Day As Multicultural Festival

With the Multicultural Festival at a new venue this year, the Reston Farmers Market at Lake Anne no longer needs to close on that day.

In years past, the Reston Farmers Market at Lake Anne was closed when the Multicultural Festival took place. Now that the 2022 festival will be at Reston Town Square Park instead of Lake Anne, the vendors decided they could open on that day.

RESTON, VA — Now that the Reston Community Center has changed the venue of this year's Multicultural Festival, the Reston Farmers Market at Lake Anne will be open Saturday, Sept. 24.

"Our farmers and vendors are excited to have another date with their favorite shoppers," said John Lovaas, the founder and co-market master of the farmers market.

In past years, the Multicultural Festival has taken place at Lake Anne Plaza, which meant that the farmers market would be closed on that day.

On Monday, RCC announced that the festival would be moving to Reston Town Center.

"We moved it to Reston Town Square Park, because we were unable to reach a satisfactory conclusion to discussions with LARCA (Lake Anne Condominium Association), and we located another venue for the event," RCC executive director Leila Gordon told Patch.

In April, RCC decided to move its Thursday night Take a Break concert series from Lake Anne Plaza to Reston Town Center after reaching a similar impasse with the LARCA Board.

Gordon said that the decision to move the Multicultural Festival was reached at the same time RCC was in discussions with LARCA over the Take a Break concerts.

"We didn't feel we needed to make an announcement then," she said. "We still were in the midst of trying to plan the lineup with our content partner, National Council for Traditional Arts. We wanted to wait until we had a lineup to announce, because we wanted the focus to be on the event content."

Shortly after RCC announced that it would be moving the Take a Break concerts, LARCA and the Washington Plaza Merchants Association reached an agreement to host a new Thursday night concert series to benefit the Friends of Reston nonprofit.

The first concert of the season at Lake Anne took place on June 30. The final concert of the season will be next Thursday, when the Tuneful Twosome perform an accordion medley from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
