Reston to Get Major Street Design Changes
The Fairfax County Department of Transportation will be holding a community meeting next week to discuss them with the public.

RESTON, VA — The Fairfax County Department of Transportation will be holding a meeting in Reston next week to discuss some major street design improvements planned for the Hunter Mill District.
The meeting will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 16 at Dogwood Elementary School, located at 12300 Glade Drive. The meeting will "discuss proposed bicycle, pedestrian and traffic safety improvements in the Hunter Mill District," according to an FCDOT statement.
Here are some of the proposed changes to the area:

- North Shore Drive from Ring Road to Wiehle Avenue. Two options are under review:
- Keep existing parking but narrow travel lanes to add bike lanes and shared-lane markings; or
- Restrict on-street parking to one side of the street from Ivy Oak Square to Wiehle Avenue. Add bike lanes in both directions for this segment. Keep existing parking from Ivy Oak Square to Ring Road. Narrow travel lanes to add bike lanes and shared-lane markings.
- In addition a road diet is proposed near Tall Oaks Village Center, as approved in the rezoning.
- Twin Branches Road from Lawyers Road to South Lakes Drive – narrow travel lanes to reduce speeding and add bike lanes. Parking will be identified.
- Colts Neck Road from Reston Parkway to Glade Drive – keep existing parking but narrow travel lanes and add bike lanes.
- Colts Neck Road from Glade Drive to Sunrise Valley Drive – implement a road diet to create a center turn lane and reduce speeding; add bike lanes; and improve pedestrian safety by adding crosswalks.
