Reston Golf Club Sold, Could Be Turned Into Housing Complex

As a battle to keep Reston National Golf Course safe from developers continues, another Reston golf course has been sold to a developer.

RESTON, VA -- Hidden Creek Country Club near Lake Anne was sold to a developer recently, and there's a chance it could be redeveloped into a housing community, according to an Oct. 23 statement from Fore Golf.

Wheelock Communities, which owns properties across the East Coast in in Texas, purchased the club and will invest $300,000 in upgrades, with Fore Golf remaining as manager of the property. However, Wheelock reserves the right to redesignate the property for "new housing choices" at some point in the future, the statement notes.

"Over the next few years, Wheelock will be working in partnership with the club members and the Reston community to explore potential changes to the property that could provide the Reston community with additional public amenities, environmental benefits and new housing choices," the statement notes.

The upgrades in the short term will be made to the Roanoke Grill, Tavern, Lobby, Fairway Room, and the locker rooms, as well as a new fleet of golf carts in December.

The golf course is in the crosshairs of the county as well: earlier this year, Connection Newspapers reported that Fairfax County wanted to construct a road straight through the golf course to connect American Dream Way and Isaac Newton Square.

Developers are keen on snatching up golf courses in Reston. Local activists beat back an attempt to redevelop Reston National Golf Course in an expensive legal battle a couple years ago, and the golf course is once again being eyed for development despite protests from Restonians.
