Local Law Firm to Host Hound Dog Day to Benefit Four Animal Rescues
Two attorneys at McCandlish Lillard began the Hound Dog Day tradition, and this is the first year they're honoring it with a fundraiser.

Local law firm McCandlish Lillard is hosting a free event on Saturday, Aug. 1, to benefit four local dog rescue groups.
The event, aptly named Hound Dog Day, will take place at Lake Fairfax Park in Reston from 1:30-5:30 p.m. The event is free and will feature kids activities like face painting, jugglers and a photo booth; live music; food trucks; walking entertainment and pet-related vendors on site.
And, of course, all dogs are welcome so long as they’re on a leash. Visitors will also have a chance to meet dogs available for adoption and learn more about the process from staff working the event.

All net proceeds generated at the event will go to Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA), Homeward Trails Animal Rescue, Mutt Love Resuce and The Shiloh Project.
The name Hound Dog Day derives from an old McCandlish Lillard office tradition, according to office spokeswoman Emily Canis.

As the story goes, two attorneys started Hound Dog Day as a corollary to Ground Hog Day, which takes place on Feb. 2. The original Hound Dog Day took place on Aug. 2, exactly six months removed from Ground Hog Day, and as legend has it, if the hound dog crossed the porch and drank from his water bowl, we’d all enjoy six more weeks of summer. If he didn’t stop for a drink, it meant fall was coming early.
The tradition has lived on ever since, and this year is the first time the law firm has turned that tradition into a community fundraising event to benefit hound dogs and other animals beloved by community members.
