Reston Man Killed In Five-Vehicle Pile-Up

A Reston man perished in the pile-up while 10 other individuals were injured, some seriously.

RESTON, VA – A five-vehicle crash on northbound U.S. 340 south of Charles Town over the weekend claimed the life of a Reston man. John E. King, 32, was identified by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office on its Facebook page as the person who perished in the traffic accident.

Two other occupants in the Toyota Camry in which King was traveling were transported to area hospitals. Ten individuals total were injured in the five-car pile-up. According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page, a tractor-trailer failed to reduce its speed in the northbound slow lane of U.S. 340 as it approached the intersection with Augustine Avenue. That caused the tractor-trailer to collide with a vehicle and push it into another. A total of four vehicles were pushed into each other by the one tractor-trailer.

The tractor-trailer was hauling 80,000 pounds of potatoes, according to Herald-Mail Media. Multiple police departments and fire responders attended to the accident. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office also stated on its Facebook page that “Criminal charges are being reviewed and court actions are expected soon.”
