Reston Man Killed In Plane Crash At Front Royal Airport: Reports

Police identified 76-year-old Steven B. Zaboji of Reston as the victim.

FRONT ROYAL, VA — The pilot of a plane that crashed in Front Royal over the weekend was a resident of Reston, according to reports.

Virginia State Police identified 76-year-old Steven B. Zaboji of Reston as the victim after a Piper Pawnee took off at around 1:35 p.m. Saturday from Front Royal Airport in Warren County before crashing onto a private property nearby and catching fire, according to a Washington Post report.

The plane was towing a glider, which managed to safely detach and land without injury to the occupants, the Royal Examiner reported. Zaboji died at the scene.

The report noted that the the plane may have encountered turbulence that caused the glider to rise above the tow lane and jerk the tail of the plane upward, sending it into a nose dive.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
