RESTON, VA — Money Magazine has released its annual list of the 100 best places to live in the United States, and Reston has earned a spot high on the list.
Reston was ranked 29th in the country, just ahead of nearby Ashburn. It was one of just three Virginia towns to make the list. The third was Midlothian, a Richmond suburb that came in at No. 47.

"For this year’s Best Places to Live list, we chose to focus on towns with a population of 10,000 to 100,000, to avoid the biggest cities while shining a light on smaller towns and affordable suburbs," the report states. "From that starting point, MONEY sifted through data at a granular level. We examined dozens of different variables that speak to the good life, including growing jobs, quality schools, cultural and recreational resources, and affordable homes. To help hone our search, MONEY teamed up with realtor.com to leverage its knowledge of housing markets throughout the country."
Money describes Reston as a suburb with a "woodsy atmosphere" that includes lots of parks and golf courses.

"Over 50 miles of pathways were designed to weave in and around its communities to increase pedestrian safety and to ensure that most residents’ homes were no more than a half-mile walk to village centers," the magazine added.
The article highlighted Reston Town Center, calling it a "community hub" that is one of the most important U.S. locations for the tech industry.
