Reston National Golf Course Owner to Proceed with Zoning Appeal
New date for the appeal is Jan. 21, 2015. The meeting starts at 9 a.m. at 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax.

The Reston National Golf Course owner has requested that the Fairfax County Board of Zoning Appeals proceed with scheduling an appeal related to a 2012 decision by the county that the restricted the golf course land from being used for residential development, according to a news release from Reston Association.
The county previously determined that any rezoning or redevelopment of the golf course for residential uses requires the following:
- An amendment to the adopted Comprehensive Plan.
- Development plan amendment.
- Planned Residential Community (PRC) plan approval from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.
The owner of the golf course had indefinitely deferred a decision on whether to appeal the county’s ruling.

Reston Association remains opposed to the golf course land being redeveloped for residential use and has stated that Reston is a “golf course community.” RA’s Board President Ken Knueven said that “members have long supported the two golf courses within Reston. It is RA’s stance that these golf courses are integral to the active lifestyle of its members and furthers the Reston lifestyle ‘live, work, play and get involved.’”
Knueven said that the association believes that the Reston National Golf Course remains profitable. RA has stated its willingness to assist in maintaining that profitability by partnering in golf programs and classes for RA members.
RA is also willing to consider a purchase of the golf course in order to keep Reston a golf course community. The Reston National Golf Course is more than a network of green open space and trails, it is an active recreational asset for the community, said Knueven.
