Reston Open Space Advocacy Group Names 2 New Board Members

RESTON, VA — Rescue Reston appointed two new board members to the organization that works to preserve recreational open space in the community from development.

John McCrea and Douglas Britt, long-time volunteers with Rescue Reston, were named to the group’s board.

“The addition of John and Doug will add additional expertise and energy into steadfastly defending against development of two of the largest contiguous areas of Reston’s green open spaces, both of which are part of the Chesapeake Bay watershed,” said Connie Hartke, president of Rescue Reston.

McCrea has lived in Reston with his family for nearly 25 years. Britt, a Virginia master naturalist, has lived in Reston with his wife Penny since 1975.

Rescue Reston, a grassroots group formed in 2012, works to defend Reston’s recreational green space at Hidden Creek Country Club and Reston National Golf Course from residential housing or any site development other than a golf course or comparable open space.

They golf courses also serve as wildlife corridors and, in conjunction with the Reston Association, offer walking paths for community members.
