RESTON, VA — Buoyant Force, the 50-foot steel sculpture by artist Sue Wrbican, will be celebrated with a ceremony at 1o a.m. on Friday in Reston Town Square Park, according to a release from the Tephra Institute of Contemporary Art.

Inspired by the paintings of American Surrealist Kay Sage, Buoyant Force was originally installed in January 2020. An opening ceremony for the sculpture was planned for that spring, but it had to be canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The celebration, which is sponsored by the Reston Community Center, will feature a poetry reading by George Mason University Professor Heather Green and a dance performance by contemporary dance artist and choreographer Tariq O’Meally. Speaking at the event will be Wrbican; Lily Siegel, the curator of Buoyant Force, Congressman Gerry Connolly, Hunter Mill District Supervisor Walter Alcorn, and Robert Goudie, Tephra ICA Board chair.
