Reston Snow Alert: Up To 3 Inches Possible

A new forecast indicates the D.C. area is increasingly likely to get snow accumulation.

The forecast is starting to come into focus for Tuesday and Wednesday, and odds are increasing for some snow accumulation in our area -- up to 3 inches, in fact, according to one forecast.

The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang says that there is a "reasonably good chance for at least a little accumulation," and have set the range at a dusting to 3 inches for the D.C. area.

The snow would fall between Tuesday night and Wednesday, with the chance of at least an inch of the white stuff now at 40 percent.

There is still a lot of time between now and then, so things could certainly change. The models are split on how much we'll get, with one model showing 2-3 inches and another showing nothing more than a dusting.

There's also a chance that a low pressure system could suddenly form along the coast and result in us getting slammed with 4 inches or more.

Because temperatures are low, the snow should stick, CWG says.

As far as the extended forecast goes, temperatures are expected to warm up once again this upcoming weekend, getting up into the 50s next Sunday. Highs should at least stay in the 40s throughout this week and next, according to Weather.com.
