Reston Teacher Had 'Indecent' Relationship With Child: Police

The man, who worked as a shop teacher at Langston Hughes Middle School, allegedly had an inappropriate relationship with a child.

RESTON, VA -- A former shop teacher at Langston Hughes Middle School in Reston has been arrested after being accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a child while he worked at the school.

The investigation began in June 2014 when a relative of the victim reported a suspicious relationship between the teen and a teacher, but at the time there wasn't sufficient information to place criminal charges, according to a report from the Fairfax County Police Department.

Last year, police received "additional information indicating criminal acts occurred in 2014," the report states. Police arrested 40-year-old Timothy Threlkeld of Manassas, who was charged back in November with four counts of taking indecent liberties with a child.

Police blamed an "internal communications error" for it taking until now for the information to be released.

Threlkeld resigned his position with Fairfax County Public Schools on June 30, 2015. He is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 27.
