Reston Town Center is About to Get Colorful

ChalkFest 2016 is coming to Market Street this September, and now's the time to get registered if you want to participate.

It's almost time for ChalkFest on Market Street, so get registered now for the early September event, which is open to both professional artists and kids of all ages.

The sidewalks along Market Street will be lighting up with color Sept. 9 and 10 with some truly spectacular drawings from not only professional artists, but also amateurs, families and kids -- all of whom are welcome to draw on the sidewalk. You should register now, however, if you want to participate, according to a statement from Initiative for Public Art Reston.

Prizes will be awarded for all groups, and there will be an "Audience Choice Awards."

"The Festival is one of the area’s most unique and fun events that attracts a diverse audience and promotes public art in Reston," the statement reads. "Participants are invited to show off their creativity and realize chalk drawings on Market Street, in the heart of Reston Town Center."

Want to brush up on your skills first? Then come to a free chalk workshop let by artist Patrick Owens on Saturday, Sept. 3 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. It's free and open to the public, and will take place by the Mercury Fountain in Reston Town Center.
