Reston Town Center Metro Station Faces Major Hearing
The Fairfax County Planning Commission will be holding a public hearing next week to examine an important exemption.

RESTON, VA — The Fairfax County Planning Commission will be holding a public hearing next week on the Reston Town Center Metro station to take up an important zoning ordinance modification for one of the entrances to the station.
The hearing will be held Feb. 23 and will deal with a special exemption application for the south entrance pavilion that would require only 5 percent of open space instead of 15 percent.
"The applicants state that the boundary for the SE area is highly constrained in order to avoid adverse impact to future development of adjacent properties and to ensure that the development of the proposed mass transit facilities remain in harmony with the adjacent development," the staff report states. "The site design and layout is consistent with the design of the other entrance pavilion areas along the Silver Line."

The Reston Town Center Metro station was approved by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors last year, and would be the next station to be built on the Silver Line after the Wiehle-Reston East station, which is currently the westernmost point on the line. The line would further extend to Herndon and eventually out to Dulles International Airport.
The Board of Supervisors will take on the exemption application on March 14 if the Planning Commission recommends the action.
