Reston Weather: Fairfax Schools Closing/Delay Policy Explained
With an inch of snow possible in the D.C. area, schools could be delayed or even cancelled on Friday.
RESTON, VA — Prepare for the apocalypse: the D.C. area is projected to get buried under an inch of snow Thursday evening. Although it's iffy at this point, it's possible that schools in Reston will be delayed or even cancelled. As a result, it's a good idea to brush up on the weather cancellation procedures and policies for your area.
The Fairfax County Public Schools website will automatically include an alert at the top of the page with appropriate information if there is a weather-related closed, delay or early dismissal.
The school system urges parents and students to have a well-communicated plan in the event of emergency situations, so the child knows where to go and what to do if something happens.

When will you know if snow is going to affect the school day on Friday? FCPS says they try to make decisions in the evening to give parents more time to make arrangements, but sometimes they won't know until the morning.
"In that case, the superintendent makes the decision of whether to delay or close schools by approximately 4:30 a.m.," according to the FCPS website.
