Reston's 4th of July 'Firecrackers 5K for the Troops' Kicks Of Monday Morning

The proceeds will go to benefit the USO of Metropolitan Washington.

Want to stretch your legs on the 4th of July and help out a good cause? Downtown Reston will be the place to be Monday morning for the Firecracker 5K for the Troops.

Live music and waving American flags will fill the Reston Town Center starting at 8 a.m. on the 4th of July.

"This is a wonderful opportunity to give thanks and show your support to our local military members and their families," the website states. "Come out and root for your favorite military branch in the 'Battle of the Branches' competition!"

Those who sign up to run will be able to choose which branch of service that they want to be affiliated with, and Potomac River Running will make a donation on behalf of the branch that gets the most runners registered.

The kids can get involved as well. There will be a "Tot Dash" fun run a couple hundred yards along Market Street at 8:50 a.m. after the 5K wraps up. All finishers get a bib and a medal.

"Net proceeds from this event will support the many programs and services that the USO of Metropolitan Washington provides to serve our local troops and their families," the site adds.
