Rob Baker Honored by National Wrestling Hall of Fame

One of our own, SOSi team member Rob Baker was inducted this week into the Maryland Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.

One of our own, SOS International LLC (SOSi) team member Rob Baker was inducted this week into the Maryland Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. He was honored in the “Outstanding American” category for demonstrating “wrestling’s pride by using the disciplines of the sport to launch notable careers in other walks of life, such as science and technology, business and industry, government and the military, and the arts and humanities.”

An Army veteran, Rob Baker joined SOSi in 2013 as the director of international initiatives and currently heads up the company’s commercial business ventures in Kabul, Afghanistan. Baker is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where he was a member of academy’s club wrestling team. His wrestling career started at Aberdeen Senior High School under the leadership of Coach Dick Slutzky.

“The things I learned through wrestling – like mental toughness, the value of hard work, and the ability to face and overcome my fears – have been instrumental to the success I have achieved,” Baker said. “In addition to being honored today by this recognition, I am grateful to the sport of wrestling for what it taught me as a young man.”

America’s shrine to the sport of wrestling, the National Wrestling Hall of Fame & Museum was founded as in 1976 to honor the sport of wrestling, preserve its history, recognize extraordinary individual achievements, and inspire future generations. The museums in Stillwater, Okla., and Waterloo, Iowa, hold the largest collection of wrestling artifacts and memorabilia in the world.

“I am honored by this recognition,” Baker said at the event. “In some small measure, this honor recognizes many of the other quiet professionals I have served with along the way.”
