"Rough Around the Edges" Show of Inspirations in Paper
A unique genre of art is now on exhibit at Reston Art Gallery & Studios through July 26. Meet artist Ronni Jolles on Sunday, July 12.

Reston Art Gallery & Studios is exhibiting the unique genre of painting with paper by Ronni Jolles through July 26. All are welcome to view new works in her show, “Rough Around the Edges”, and meet the artist at a reception on Sunday, July 12 from 2 pm until 4 pm in the gallery, 11400 Washington Plaza, Reston, on the waterfront of Lake Anne. The exhibit can also be viewed during open gallery hours on weekends, or by chance or appointment through the week.
Ronni Jolles has created a different category of art that could be called mixed media, or collage, but her unique and innovative works are really more of a sculptural art form. Her primary medium of paper from all over the world is cut, torn, and layered to create textured scenes and details. In each of the one-of-a-kind works, layers of paper are protected and textured with acrylic sealant, with color added in paint. Jolles’ inspiration comes from a wide range of subjects such as Italian landscapes, trees, water, dancers, and country gardens. As a graduate of Cornell University with a double major in Art and Psychology, Jolles is an art educator. Before becoming a full-time professional artist in 2000, she taught all art media at Flint Hill and Sidwell Friends, and worked on educational media for National Geographic. Her extensive resume of solo shows and group exhibitions around the country include the 2010 Smithsonian Craft Show, and this August, her work will be exhibited at three California venues in Palo Alto, Irvine, and Santa Barbara. Jolles grew up in Rochester, NY and Washington, DC, resides in Great Falls, VA, and became an artist member of RAGS in 2003. She is always working on new pieces, and her original art can be viewed online at www.RonniJolles.com.
