RTC, Herndon Metro Stations Surge Past Halfway Point
Phase 2 of the Silver Line expansion is now 56 percent complete thanks to a mild winter.

RESTON, VA — Construction of the second phase of the Silver Line expansion to Reston Town Center, Herndon and all the way to Dulles International Airport has hit the 56 percent mark thanks to a mild winter, according to a statement from the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project.
That includes construction of the track, the stations, support infrastructure, and everything else that goes into a Metro line. Construction of the "huge rail yard" at Dulles Airport has reached 46 percent, the statement notes.
A total of 223 deck spans have been poured -- 76 percent of the total -- and 183 of the pier caps have been poured.

"Soon crews will be installing pedestrian bridges at five stations to provide access to the stations," the statement notes. "Drainage work and track wall construction continue. Protective slabs over Fairfax County's waterline near the Reston Station are being installed."
The foundation work is starting at Loudoun Gateway Station and Ashburn Station. At Reston Town Center, precast erections and station wall work is underway, while at Herndon Station, structural steel installation for the vault roof has begun.
