VIRGINIA — Families, friends and neighbors are mourning the more than 9,000 Virginians who died in the coronavirus pandemic over the past year, Gov. Ralph Northam said Sunday in a video.

Many others have lost jobs, income, a sense of security and knowing what would happen next as lockdowns and the virus turned life upside down.

"None of us could have imagined what was coming, or how the pandemic would touch every one of us in virtually aspect of our lives," Northam said. "For far too many people, life will never be the same again. It has been a hard year, but I have been encouraged by the strength of Virginians in every corner of our Commonwealth."
