Suspected Gold's Gym Gunman In Custody, Victim Not Identified

RESTON, VA — Fairfax County Police reported on Tuesday night that a suspect was arrested and in custody in connection with a homicide that occurred earlier in the day at a gym in Reston. Police said they would release more information about the suspect and victim on Wednesday.

A man died from injuries suffered in a shooting Tuesday afternoon at the Gold's Gym in Reston, according to Fairfax County Police. K9 officers and the helicopter Fairfax One also responded to the scene to assist in the search.

"This seems to be an isolated incident that occurred this afternoon at the gym," Capt. Kent Bailey, a police spokesman, said during a 3:30 p.m. news conference.

A report of someone being shot at Gold's Gym, 11830 Sunrise Valley Drive, was made about 1 p.m. The victim was an adult male who suffered upper-body trauma, Bailey said. The wounded man was taken to an area hospital, where he was declared deceased.

"Both the victim and the suspect were working out in the gym, when the suspect approached the victim, assumed a targeted stance and shot the victim," Bailey said..

Officers were investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including what possible connection the victim and suspect had and what led up to the shooting.

Police are looking for the possible gunman, described as a heavy-set Latino or Asian man, who is 25 to 30 years old. At the time of the shooting, he was wearing glasses, a black shirt and black pants. He was also carrying a large swing bag. He was seen leaving the area on foot.
