DULLES, VA — A group of Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives introduced a bill on Friday seeking to rename Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia after former President Donald Trump, according to news reports.

The bill says: "The Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia shall after the date of the enactment of this Act be known and designated as the "Donald J. Trump International Airport." If enacted, the bill would also require all laws, regulations, maps, documents, papers or other records to identify the airport as "Donald J. Trump International Airport."

In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, U.S. Rep. Don Beyer (D-Virginia) recalled that one of Trump's first acts as president was the Muslim ban that would've barred permanent American residents from entering the country.

"I went to Dulles to try to help innocent people caught up in the chaos," he said in the post. "I remember grandparents detained for hours as their terrified families waited."

The Virginia lawmaker also recalled the same legislators who wrote the bill as "hiding and giving mealy-mouthed responses" when asked about the chaos the Muslim ban created.

"They know Dulles will never be renamed after Trump. Again, that’s not the point, the point is to suck up to their Dear Leader," he said.

“As millions of domestic and international travelers fly through the airport, there is no better symbol of freedom, prosperity and strength than hearing ‘Welcome to Trump International Airport’ as they land on American soil,” Reschenthaler said in a statement, The Washington Post reported.
