Sobriety Checkpoint in Reston District on Friday
Drunk drivers beware: Fairfax County Police will be out in force in the Reston District this weekend.

RESTON, VA — Don't drink and drive, Reston drivers. That's always good advice, but it's doubly true this upcoming weekend: Fairfax County Police will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint somewhere in the Reston District this Friday, Oct. 7.
Police aren't saying where the sobriety checkpoint is taking place, but it will be conducted from 11:15 p.m. and 2:15 a.m. between Friday night and early Saturday morning, according to a police statement.
"Please drive sober and stay safe!" police said.

DUI penalties in Virginia are strict. A first offense is classified as a Class 1 misdemeanor with a mandatory minimum fine of $250, and a minimum of five days in jail if the person's blood alcohol content is over 0.15 -- 10 days if it's over 0.20. Penalties increase significantly after the first offense.
