South Lakes Sophomore Wins Conference Golf Tournament

With a combined two-round score of 141, the Seahawks Kurtis Grant will represent South Lakes at the Northern Region tournament next month.

Langley and Madison High Schools may have dominated team play once again at this week’s Liberty Conference Golf Tournament, but there was no better individual golfer in the field than South Lakes sophomore Kurtis Grant.

Grant placed first overall with a combined score of 141 strokes between the tournament’s two rounds. Grant shot a 71 for Monday’s opening round, the followed that performance by shooting a 70 on Tuesday.

As the top individual finisher in the conference, Grant will now advance to the Northern Region tournament to be held on Oct. 6 and 7.

South Lakes senior Nick Kim also placed high enough among individual boys golfers to join Grant for the regional tournament.

As a team, South Lakes placed third behind Langley and Madison, who, as InsideNova noted, traditionally dominate the annual conference golf event. Both entire teams will move on to compete in the regional tournament.
