Sprint Lays Off 235 Employees in Reston Area

Kansas City Star reports that even more lost their jobs at company headquarters in Kansas earlier this month.

Layoffs at Sprint have seen 235 people lose their jobs in the Reston area, according to a report Friday night by the Kansas City Star, where the company is headquartered.

The news report did not say where the layoffs took place in Reston; Sprint has an Executive Briefing Center in Reston at 12524 Sunrise Valley Drive. The company moved its headquarters from Reston to Kansas six years ago.

Sprint announced earlier in the month it had laid off 452 from its headquarters in Overland Park, Kansas including upper management employees.

“We want our customers to pay less for a better value on a new network,” the company said in a statement earlier in the month before the Reston layoffs were announced. “As a part of this plan, we have to more closely align our cost structure with that of our competitors. To that end, organizations across Sprint are examining their cost structures and operations to identify opportunities for increased efficiency and streamlined approaches to meet our customers’ needs.”

More layoffs could be coming to the Overland Park office. The company has about 1,800 employees in the DC metro area.
