RESTON, VA — A Reston man has been charged in connection with a string of overnight burglaries that started last fall in the Northpoint Village Shopping Center, according to a Fairfax County Police Department blog post.

Detectives from FCPD's Criminal Investigations Division charged 22-year-old Giovanni Lamont Dill of Reston with possession of burglarious tools, three counts of burglary, two counts of destruction of property, and one count of trespassing on Friday night.

The detectives had developed a profile of the suspect in burglaries after the owners of Matsutake Sushi and Sake Bar reported damage to their windows on Sept. 4, and Oct. 5, in 2021.

More recently, Gregorio’s Trattoria and Bobby’s Bagel Café also reported that someone had stolen merchandise from their businesses overnight on March 30. Detectives also learned that the suspect had entered and stolen items from the nearby Glory Days Grill.

Based on their investigation, police set up a surveillance operation at the shopping center and on Friday night an officer spotted Dill trespassing on private property. When the officer tried to detain him, Dill ran into the nearby woods.

“Our detectives recognized a pattern in this case and worked diligently with community members and business partners to identify a suspect," said Capt. Frederick Chambers, Criminal Investigations Division commander, in the blog post. "A heads-up detective spotted the suspect who fled on foot. Detectives and officers worked quickly, and after a search of the area, an alert patrol officer took the man into custody."

Police say Dill was in possession of burglarious tools, including gloves, a multi-tool, an Allen-wrench set, a screwdriver, and a knife. After searching a nearby home, police discovered stolen property associated with the earlier burglaries.

Dill was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he was held without bond.
