Storms Cause Ground Stops, Ground Delays At DMV Airports

RESTON, VA – A ground stop has been issued for Washington Dulles International Airport due to thunderstorms in the area.

Washington's Reagan National Airport is under a ground delay program, also due to weather. Arriving flights are being delayed by about half an hour.

Ground delays are in place at Philadelphia International Airport and New York’s JFK Airport, also due to weather conditions. Flights into those airports are reported as delayed by nearly 2 hours.

A storm system is affecting the East Coast from northern New York to southern Virginia. Forecasters are predicting 3 days of potentially heavy thunderstorms in the Washington metro area, with the possibility of hail and damaging winds. Parts of the region are also bracing for intense heat.
