KEARNS, UTAH — Short track speedskater Maame Biney of Reston earned a spot on Team USA over the weekend, finishing first in the 1,000-meter race and second in the 500, during the U.S. Olympic Trials in Salt Lake City. She'll join the four other women and two men representing the U.S. at the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing.

This will be the second Olympics for the 21-year-old who was born in Ghana and grew up in Reston. In 2018, she was the first Black woman to earn a spot on the U.S. Olympic speedskating team.

The year after her Olympic debut, Biney won both the junior world title and her first World Cup medal in the 500-meter race.
