RESTON, VA — Mechanical failures have forced the closure of the Water Mine Family Swimmin' Hole at Lake Fairfax Park in Reston for the season, according to Fairfax County Park Authority release.

The Water Mine was scheduled to remain open through the Labor Day weekend and on Sept. 10 for the Dog Daze event, but the park authority decided to close the Water Mine for the season effective immediately.

The release described the mechanical failures as "beyond our control."

"We apologize for any inconvenience and hope to see you next season," the release said.

In mid-August, the park authority switched to weekends-only service at the Water Mine for the rest of 2022 season due to a lifeguard and operations staff shortage.
