Weekend Weather: Will Reston See Sleet?

Here's a look at what to expect this weekend and Monday, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

If you were planning on getting out and about this weekend, be sure to bundle up, pull on some boots and grab an umbrella. Here’s a look at what to expect across Northern Virginia, courtesy of the National Weather Service:

  • Saturday morning: A chance of rain and sleet before 11 a.m., then rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 40. East wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. Little or no sleet accumulation expected.

If you’ll be on the road on Saturday, here’s what the Capital Weather Gang has to say about the possibility of sleet or freezing rain: “...some patchy areas of freezing rain may set up for a time in the hills north and west.”

  • Saturday night: Rain before midnight, then areas of drizzle. Low around 36. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 9 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
  • Sunday morning: Rain likely before noon, then showers after noon. High near 59. South wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent.
  • Sunday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 34.
  • Monday: Sunny with a high near 38 degrees.
