Reston Wegmans Shoppers Help Raise $15K For Food For Others During Hunger Campaign

Reston Wegmans shoppers helped Food for Others receive $15,257 during the grocery chain's annual hunger-relief campaign.

RESTON, VA — Customers at Wegmans stores across the company raised a record $769,300 during this year's Fill the Bus/Fill the Backpack campaign, with donations from the Reston store helping support Food for Others as summer demand for food assistance rises.

The annual campaign, held June 3-17, allows shoppers to donate at checkout, with all proceeds remaining in the communities where they are collected. Company officials said customers contributed $43,000 more than they did during the 2025 campaign.

Across Virginia, donations benefited 11 hunger-relief organizations, including Food for Others, which received $15,257 from customers at the Fairfax, Reston and Tysons Corner Wegmans stores.

The campaign is designed to help food banks meet increased summer demand, when many children lose access to free or reduced-price school meals during summer break. Donations support local summer feeding and backpack programs.

Virginia organizations receiving funds from the campaign included Food for Others, Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank, Loudoun Hunger Relief, Capital Area Food Bank, FeedMore, SERVE, ACTS, Alive!, Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, Food Bank of Southeastern Virginia and Eastern Shore, and Western Fairfax Christian Ministries.

Long-Running Campaign

The Fill the Bus/Fill the Backpack initiative began in 2013 as a traditional food drive. Between 2013 and 2019, customers donated more than 3.7 million pounds of food. Wegmans transitioned the effort to a checkout scanning campaign in 2021 and expanded it companywide in 2023.

Since 2021, the campaign has raised more than $3.5 million.

In addition to the annual campaign, Wegmans said it donated more than 36.8 million pounds of food in 2025 to food banks, pantries and soup kitchens across its market areas. Customers also contributed more than $4.7 million through the company's annual scan campaigns last year.
