Where the flock is our pond?
Every spring, a family of geese (quite possibly a few families) enjoy the sunshine together with local office workers in the only open space in Plaza America. As we locals know, this family of geese runs the Plaza - at least for three months of the year. Every day, we can be confident and comforted to see, together with their offspring, our little feathered friends happily waddling along, at geese pace, stopping traffic on Sunrise, and journeying through the retail maze of the Plaza, as they navigate their brood to the local pond and our shared open space. Unfortunately, with Spring around the corner, we're thinking the future is not bright for the Geese, who will most likely be a little confused and disoriented to find that their communal pond is today being filled in with landfill, the cool trees are being removed ever so quickly by a bulldozer and highly industrious group of workers who are transforming the tranquil escape for office workers and geese alike, flattened within a day. In asking a construction worker about the plans for the space, and the plans for the geese, I simply got the answer that sat with us both, "I don't know". So reaching out to anyone local who may be in the know to shed light on what is indeed happening in Plaza America to our lunchtime retreat and to the playground and pond for our friendly feathered family with two feet. Am keeping hopeful that they’re just giving what seemed to be a functioning and healthy space a significant Spring clean. But maybe that’s the optimist in me.
