Woman Struck, Killed Near Reston Town Center: Police (ICYMI)

The incident happened at Reston Parkway and Bluemont Way.

RESTON, VA -- A woman has died after being struck by a car while crossing the road near Reston Town Center on Monday.

Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash at Reston Parkway and Bluemont Way that happened at around 11:20 a.m., Fairfax County Police tweeted.

The woman, 71, has not yet been identified by police. She was trying to cross Reston Parkway.

The driver of a 2016 Hyunda Elantra, which was traveling northbound on Reston Parkway, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

"It is unknown at this time if speed or alcohol are considered factors in the crash," reads a police statement. "The identity of the pedestrian is being withheld until her family is notified."

The intersection is located just outside of Reston Town Center and is one of the most heavily trafficked intersections in Reston.
