1. Richmond police have racked up over 100 red light camera tickets and warnings, data shows (roanoke.com) — Richmond's new red light cameras have issued more than 100 warnings and tickets to marked police vehicles in just seven months, and officers must personally pay upheld $50 fines. With only 10 intersections covered so far, the data suggests far more violations may be happening across the city's nearly 500 signalized intersections, including many involving rolling right turns on red.
2. About 100 abused, neglected kids in Richmond need a volunteer advocate (roanoke.com) — Right now, about 100 abused and neglected children in Richmond and nearby Petersburg are waiting for a Court Appointed Special Advocate to stand by them in court and daily life. Local CASA leaders are urgently recruiting volunteers for a Sept. 16 training, emphasizing that everyday adults can provide crucial stability and insight to help judges make safer decisions for kids.
3. Richmond teen dances at same corner every day to spread joy to strangers: 'You can do anything' (wtvr.com) — A 19-year-old Richmond native has spent the last three years dancing daily at the corner of Belvidere and West Leigh streets to lift neighbors' spirits. He says the routine helped him cope with difficulties at home and is now about spreading joy, positivity, and a sense of community connection to everyone who passes by.
4. Virginia Community Rallies After a Man Allegedly Smashed 81 Car Windshields With a Brick (nationalenquirer.com) — In Richmond, more than 80 cars—many belonging to VCU Medical Center employees—had their windows smashed in a single parking lot, leaving some owners facing repair bills their insurance won't cover. After an arrest, local business Certified Glass Services and a community fundraiser have stepped up to reduce deductibles and help workers keep their only transportation on the road.
